Today, Friday, May 27th, two preschool and one toddler playgroup. Claire and Lauren, who usually facilitated the groups, weren't here today, so Brooke and Kathy were in charge. They mentioned that the first group was going to have some extra kids that were new to the Treehouse, which we later found out would be a big adjustment. One kid came in early that had been homeschooled and wasn’t used to being away from his parents. It was very difficult for him to engage with other kids and only wanted to leave- he wouldn't stop crying. Brooke and Kathy recommended we try different activities like painting, drawing, and playing with a marble tower to try and distract him from the idea of leaving, but none of them seemed to work. Finally, towards the end of the playgroup, he started to play with the other kids, sliding cards and balls down a ramp. Once the playgroup left, Arya and I got to work on our individual assignments. Today, we spent time on the Inspired Treehouse website. We made sure everything was clearly laid out and made sense to a parent looking through the website as we scrolled through the website. We also looked to make sure that details were consistent with the different parts of the site. We found no problems and felt that it was quite straightforward to navigate through. Next we went through and organized activities for the letter/alphabet theme, placing them all in their respective theme boxes. We finished an example of our truffula tree craft for the upcoming Dr. Seuss theme and prepped for that week by cutting out tree trunks using brown construction paper. We made the example and cut out enough supplies for the kids to use when they make the crafts. We placed all of these materials in the Dr. Seuss theme box- about 28 for that week. We printed out several copies of letter worksheets and blank cat in the hat hats and placed those in their respective boxes. Over ther weekend Arya and I will go over any final details needed to finish the theme boxes we have been working on.
